Garment Basics: Breezy Kimono (May 4)

Garment Basics: Breezy Kimono (May 4)

Saturday, May 4th 1-5pm

Ward off the chilly mornings this Spring in a handmade kimono! Our Breezy Kimono is a snap to make, a delight to wear, and we guarantee yours will be uniquely one of a kind! In this 4 hour class, Michelle will show you how to cut and construct your own thigh-length kimono, giving tips on choosing fabric, accurate cutting, and simple seam finishes.

While prior garment experience is not required to take this class, you must be comfortable threading and operating a sewing machine. Don't know how to use a sewing machine? Take our Sewing Machine Basics class!

Class fee includes:

  • 4 hours of instruction

  • Use of our cutting, marking and measuring tools

  • Use of our Janome sewing machines

  • Use of our Kimono pattern (30.5” - 44” bust) (pattern is available for in-class use. If you would like to trace the pattern for future makes, please plan on arrive at least 30 minutes early to allow time for tracing)

  • Water & snacks

  • 15% of your materials purchases on class day (come in a little early and let us help you pick out your discounted materials)

Required Materials:

Lightweight fabrics are ideal for this garment - shot cotton, lawn, and voile will all do fine! Beginners will want to avoid rayons, silks, or anything with a loose weave (such as double gauze). Please note: this pattern includes sizes up to a 44” bust.

  • 3 yards fabric for all sizes

  • Matching thread
