Join Brittney for an evening of patchwork and learn the fun and simple Log Cabin block! This class is perfect for the absolute beginner or if you need to brush up on some of your skills!  Brittney will share tips getting accurate cutting, seaming, and present inspiring layout ideas. In one session your can create enough pretty Log Cabin blocks to make a charming pillow cover or be well on your way to a baby quilt (or more!)!

While prior patchwork experience is not required to take this class, you must be comfortable threading and operating a sewing machine. Don't know how to use a sewing machine? Take our Sewing Machine Basics class!

Required Materials (available in our shop):

  • 12 fat quarters (18x22") of print or solid fabric (6 darker, 6 lighter)

  • 1 fat quarter for contrast

Class fee includes:

  • 3 hours of instruction

  • Use of our cutting, marking and measuring tools

  • Use of our Janome sewing machines

  • Water & snacks

Famed quilt maker, author, fabric designer and all around wonderful Jen Kingwell will be visiting Craft South (all the way from Australia!) to share her stunning patchwork methods.  Among skills offered by Jen will be hand-piecing, applique, and quilt as you go techniques.  She will have several of her finished works on hand which are teaching tools in themselves.  While Jen will be working with specific demos, students will have the freedom to explore their own direction with her good guidance at their side.

Workshop fee includes the following:

  • 11 hours of instruction

  • Use of our Janome Sewing Machines

  • Use of our measuring, cutting, and sewing tools

  • 15% off all in store purchases 

  • A goodie bag filled with some helpful notions & materials

  • Coffee, water, snacks throughout the weekend

Join Michelle Abegg for one beginner sewing class and finish with a million reasons to use this lovely zipper bag!  This is the perfect class for the beginning seamstress who is comfortable setting up and threading a sewing machine.  Students will create a simple patchwork design for the front of their pouch, then Michelle will cover using interfacing for stability, inserting a zipper, and lining your bag.

While prior sewing experience is not required to take this class, you must be comfortable threading and operating a sewing machine. Don't know how to use a sewing machine? Take our Sewing Machine Basics class!

Class fee includes:

  • 3 hours of instruction

  • 14” nylon zipper (you may bring your own if you are particular about the color but we have a nice rainbow to choose from!)

This gorgeous eight-pointed star is one of the most traditional quilting motifs out there, and for good reason: it's incredibly versatile and always looks sharp! Brittney will share tips getting accurate cutting, seaming, and present inspiring layout ideas, as well as how to make your Sawtooth blocks in a variety of sizes and combine them together. In one session, you can create enough Sawtooth blocks to make a charming pillow cover, or be well on your way to making a quilt top!

This is an intermediate class, meaning you should have some basic patchwork experience before taking this course, as well as be comfortable threading and operating a sewing machine.

Required Materials (available in our shop):

  • 8 fat quarters (18x22") of print or solid fabric. Lots of contrast is ideal!!

Combining Anna Maria's interest in composing vignettes and handwork, she presents a class that covers all of the techniques necessary to create a visual feast of fabric and stitching. Multiple techniques for applique - raw and turned, by machine and by hand - are shared on top of a lesson in composition. Learn to see fabrics in a completely different way as you hunt for special elements to join as starring roles or the supporting cast in your applique story. Projects can be framed as artwork, become a special cushion or the beginning of a larger quilt.
