Join Michelle Abegg for one beginner sewing class and finish with a million reasons to use this lovely zipper bag!  This is the perfect class for the beginning seamstress who is comfortable setting up and threading a sewing machine.  Students will create a simple patchwork design for the front of their pouch, then Michelle will cover using interfacing for stability, inserting a zipper, and lining your bag.

While prior sewing experience is not required to take this class, you must be comfortable threading and operating a sewing machine. Don't know how to use a sewing machine? Take our Sewing Machine Basics class!

Class fee includes:

  • 3 hours of instruction

  • 14” nylon zipper (you may bring your own if you are particular about the color but we have a nice rainbow to choose from!)

  • cotton batting

  • Use of our cutting, marking and measuring tools

  • Use of our Janome sewing machines

Join Brittney for an evening of patchwork and learn how to create the classic Sawtooth block! This gorgeous eight-pointed star is one of the most traditional quilting motifs out there, and for good reason: it's incredibly versatile and always looks sharp! Brittney will share tips getting accurate cutting, seaming, and present inspiring layout ideas, as well as how to make your Sawtooth blocks in a variety of sizes and combine them together. In one session, you can create enough Sawtooth blocks to make a charming pillow cover, or be well on your way to making a quilt top!

This is an intermediate class, meaning you should have some basic patchwork experience before taking this course, as well as be comfortable threading and operating a sewing machine.

Required Materials (available in our shop):

  • 8 fat quarters (18x22") of print or solid fabric. Lots of contrast is ideal!!

We will be sewing the Agnes jersey top from Tilly and the Buttons - the simple, fitted shape is perfect for showing off your fave knit pattern! We will be making view C - with the plain neckline and sleeves - in this class, but you will learn everything you need to know to make the other views at home!

Students will learn how to read and follow a pattern, including choosing a size, cutting and assembling. Lauren will provide tips for accurate cutting, sewing knits on a standard sewing machine, and special finishes for knits. If you can thread and operate a sewing machine, you can tackle this class!

While prior garment experience is not required to take this class, you must be comfortable threading and operating a sewing machine. Don't know how to use a sewing machine? Take our Sewing Machine Basics class!

Keep it cozy this holiday season in your own handmade kimono! Our Cozy Kimono is a snap to make, a delight to wear, and we guarantee yours will be uniquely one of a kind! In this 4.5 hour class, Michelle will show you how to cut and construct your own thigh-length kimono, giving tips on choosing fabric, accurate cutting, and simple seam finishes.

Ages 16+ (we are happy to consider younger students on a case-by-case basis - if you are under 16 and would like to take this class, please email lauren@craft-south.com). While prior garment experience is not required to take this class, you must be comfortable threading and operating a sewing machine. Don't know how to use a sewing machine? Let’s kick off the new decade with a bang and sew up some custom jeans! While making jeans seems like it would be intimidating and difficult, it doesn't have to be - and our instructor LLADYBIRD (Lauren Taylor) is going to show you just how easy (and fun!) it can be!

Students will learn using the Ginger Jeans from Closet Case Patterns* - a classic high-rise skinny jean made with stretch denim.  We will go over everything you need to know to make a professional looking pair of jeans - choosing the correct size, performing minor pattern alterations and basic fitting adjustments, tips for accurate topstitching, serged seam finishes, an easy fly-front zipper, and installing all that fun hardware! We will kick off the weekend with a half day to choose your size (we will have samples of the Ginger Jeans pre-made so you can try them on!) and cutting and marking your denim. Construction will begin on Saturday and continue through the weekend. You will leave with not only a new pair of jeans, but also the knowledge and empowerment to make more on your own!

* Please Note: The Ginger jeans pattern is available in sizes 0-20. For sizes 20-28, students can opt to use the Ames Jeans from Cashmerette instead.

Prior sewing experience is required to take this class. You must be comfortable threading and operating a sewing machine, and have sewn at least one garment pattern. This class is best suited for intermediate seamstresses or adventurous beginners with a little experience under their belt.

Class fee includes the following:

  • 18 hours of instruction

  • All notions + hardware - thread, denim needles, topstitching thread, rivets and buttons, interfacing

  • Use of our marking, measuring, cutting, and sewing tools

Combining Anna Maria's interest in composing vignettes and handwork, she presents a class that covers all of the techniques necessary to create a visual feast of fabric and stitching. Multiple techniques for applique - raw and turned, by machine and by hand - are shared on top of a lesson in composition. Learn to see fabrics in a completely different way as you hunt for special elements to join as starring roles or the supporting cast in your applique story. Projects can be framed as artwork, become a special cushion or the beginning of a larger quilt.

In this weekend class taught by Cal Patch, you'll learn how to draft a pattern (using your own measurements) for your own custom shift dress with or without sleeves, make a muslin to test the fit, alter the pattern, and then sew a real dress! Skills covered will include taking measurements, pattern drafting, darts, bias tape facings, (optional) invisible zippers, hemming, and more. This classic and versatile style can also become a blouse or tunic, with infinite sleeve variations.

Keep it cozy this holiday season in your own handmade kimono! Our Cozy Kimono is a snap to make, a delight to wear, and we guarantee yours will be uniquely one of a kind! In this 4.5 hour class, Michelle will show you how to cut and construct your own thigh-length kimono, giving tips on choosing fabric, accurate cutting, and simple seam finishes.

Ages 16+ (we are happy to consider younger students on a case-by-case basis - if you are under 16 and would like to take this class, please email lauren@craft-south.com). While prior garment experience is not required to take this class, you must be comfortable threading and operating a sewing machine. Don't know how to use a sewing machine? Take our Sewing Machine Basics class!

Class fee includes:

  • 4.5 hours of instruction

  • Use of our cutting, marking and measuring tools

  • Use of our Janome sewing machines

  • Use of our Kimono pattern (30.5” - 44” bust) (pattern is available for in-class use. If you would like to trace the pattern for future makes, please plan on arrive at least 30 minutes early to allow time for tracing)

  • Water & snacks

Required Materials:

Lightweight fabrics are ideal for this garment - shot cotton, lawn, and voile will all do fine! Beginners will want to avoid rayons, silks, or anything with a loose weave (such as double gauze). Please note: this pattern includes sizes up to a 44” bust.

Join Michelle Abegg for a fantastic intro to the world of machine quilting. This will be a fun opportunity to learn the basics and take the plunge into straight line quilting or free motion quilting (or both!). You will finish your whole cloth baby quilt with a simple fold-over binding. Michelle will share tips on prepping materials for quilting, stitching techniques, machine capabilities, thread and material choices, tension and more.

While prior quilting experience is not required to take this class, you must be comfortable threading and operating a sewing machine. Don't know how to use a sewing machine? Take our Sewing Machine Basics class!

Combining Anna Maria's interest in composing vignettes and handwork, she presents a class that covers all of the techniques necessary to create a visual feast of fabric and stitching. Multiple techniques for applique - raw and turned, by machine and by hand - are shared on top of a lesson in composition. Learn to see fabrics in a completely different way as you hunt for special elements to join as starring roles or the supporting cast in your applique story. Projects can be framed as artwork, become a special cushion or the beginning of a larger quilt.

Workshop fee includes the following:

  • 11 hours of instruction

  • Use of our marking, measuring, cutting, and sewing tools

  • A goodie bag filled with some helpful notions & materials

Suitable for all levels, our Open Sewing Night is a fun way to make your sewing a little more social, while also learning the techniques and projects that interest you the most!

While prior garment experience is not required to take this class, you must be comfortable threading and operating a sewing machine. Don't know how to use a sewing machine? Take our Sewing Machine Basics class! Please note that this is a garment class and we do not cover patchwork or quilting techniques. If you are a true beginner who needs one-on-one attention, we encourage you to sign up for a private lesson instead!

Join Michelle Abegg for one beginner sewing class and finish with a million reasons to use this lovely zipper bag!  This is the perfect class for the beginning seamstress who is comfortable setting up and threading a sewing machine.  Students will create a simple patchwork design for the front of their pouch, then Michelle will cover using interfacing for stability, inserting a zipper, and lining your bag.

While prior sewing experience is not required to take this class, you must be comfortable threading and operating a sewing machine. Don't know how to use a sewing machine? Take our Sewing Machine Basics class!

Class fee includes:

  • 14” nylon zipper (you may bring your own if you are particular about the color but we have a nice rainbow to choose from!)
