Sew Your Own Shirts in 2019!
Are you ready to take your sewing skills to a whole new level? Join us in January for a fun and informative workshop and learn all the skills you need to sew your own button-front shirts! Instructor Lauren Taylor will lead you through all the steps needed to construct your dream shirt - taking out the mystery behind seemingly tricky steps including creating a perfect collar + collar stand, easy button and sleeve plackets, setting in sleeves without tears, and so much more!
In this class, you will cut and sew your own button down shirt using the Archer pattern from Grainline Studios (Plus sized? The Harrison Shirt from Cashmerette Patterns is a great substitute and comes in sizes 12-28!). The pattern features an easy, loose fit, which means minimal fitting so you can really dig into the good stuff - aka, sewing! What we love the most about this pattern, though, is all the great details that come included - which means after you’ve sewn your first Archer shirt, you’ll be armed with all the skills you need to tackle all sorts of other patterns!
Add a fun twist to your classic shirt with the Rosa Shirt + Dress pattern from Tilly and the Buttons! This pattern includes front and back princess seams for a sleek and fitted look, which can easily be highlighted by adding contrasting piping! This wonderful pattern comes with options for both a shirt and a dress - so whichever way your style swings, Rosa has got you covered!
If you’re more of a dress person, the Alder Shirtdress from Grainline Studio is a great option that includes all the classic features of a button-up shirt, except you can wear it without pants! View A features an A-line shape with a curved hem, and View B adds a little sass with a gathered skirt at the sides and back of the garment.
Need more dress options? We’ve got your back! The Penny Shirtdress from Colette Patterns includes loads of feminine details for a sweet vintage vibe. For a dress that will come together in half the time, we love the Frances Dress from Green Bee Patterns. With its simplified collar and beautiful shoulder gathers, this fast and fun pattern sews up in no time!
The best part about shirtmaking is the number of fabric options you have - they are practically endless! Whether you choose to go bold with quilting cotton, lightweight with cotton lawn, soft and cozy with double gauze, classic with plaid, or neutral with cotton chambray, or simple and set for summer with a beautiful essex linen - we guarantee there is an option you will fall in love with, both to sew and to wear!
Our Sew Your Own Classic Shirt class is this January 2019, and gives you a full 2 1/2 days of sewing bliss!
