Fitting + Cutting Half Day: Friday, January 19th 2-6pm
Instruction: January 20th & 21st, 10a - 5p
A new year means new skills - so why not kick things off with a bang and sew up your own custom jeans! While making jeans seems like it would be scary and hard, it doesn't have to be - and our instructor Lauren Taylor is going to show you just how easy (and fun!) it can be!
Students will learn how to make jeans using the Ginger Jeans pattern from Closet Case Patterns - a classic high-rise skinny jean made with stretch denim. We will go over everything you need to know to make a professional looking pair of jeans - choosing the correct size, tips for accurate topstitching, serged seam finishes, an easy fly-front zipper, and installing all that fun hardware! We will kick off the weekend with a half day to choose your size (we will have muslins of the pattern pre-made so you can try them on!) and cutting and marking your denim. Construction will begin on Saturday and go all through the weekend. Please note that while this is not a pants-fitting class, Lauren will cover basic flat pattern alterations and minor fitting adjustments as needed for each individual booty :)
While prior garment experience is not required to take this class (although we encourage you to sew a couple garments beforehand, as you will get so much more out of this class!), you must be comfortable threading and operating a sewing machine. Don't know how to use a sewing machine? Take our Sewing Machine Basics class!
Class fee includes the following:
18 hours of instruction
Use of our marking, measuring, cutting, and sewing tools
Use of our Janome sewing machines
15% off all in store purchases throughout the weekend
A goodie bag filled with some helpful notions & materials
Coffee, water, snacks throughout the weekend
Specific material requirements and schedule will be sent to participants in advance of workshop. We will have kits available to students with everything you need (fabric, pattern, hardware, and notions) to complete this project. Click here to see Nashville Area info to help plan your trip!
