Friday, July 20th 2-6p; Saturday July 21st 10a-5p

Designer and Craft South founder, Anna Maria Horner, presents three beginner garments that are simple to sew, easy to customize the size, and a thrill to add some embellished details! Based on one (or more) of her three new Simple Start patterns, Anna Maria will guide students through selecting the appropriate materials, size adjustments, cutting and assembling a first round garment, and finally designing and beginning an embellished version of the garment.

While prior garment experience is not required to take this class (although we encourage you to sew a couple garments beforehand, as you will get so much more out of this class!), you must be comfortable threading and operating a sewing machine. Don't know how to use a sewing machine? Take our Sewing Machine Basics class!

Class fee includes the following:

  • 10 hours of instruction

  • All 3 Simple Start Patterns (Bassline skirt, Here & There tunic, Popover tank)

  • Use of our Janome Sewing Machines

  • Use of our measuring, cutting, and sewing tools

  • 15% off all in store purchases

Wednesday, October 17th 6-8p / Location TBA

The Kaffe Fassett lecture is designed to inspire and motivate. The presentation highlights works from his latest projects, including his patchwork quilts, fabric, needlepoint, mosaics, painting and knitting designs. A tremendous amount of Kaffe's inspiration comes from his continual travels and his lecture is designed not so much to instruct but to empower and inspire the audience to create and develop their "mind's eye." Audiences leave invigorated - entranced by Kaffe's sense and use of color; they are ready to try it themselves and are encouraged to do so. The slide show lasts approximately one hour followed by a Q&A session and book signing, plus cocktails and snacks! This event is included with registration of Kaffe’s quilt workshops.

Color & Inspiration Lecture: Wednesday, October 17th 6-8p

Workshop: Thursday, October 18th 9:30a - 4:30p (includes a 1 hour lunch) / Location TBA

Featured in Kaffe Fassett Quilts in Morocco, we have taken a traditional snowball and made it fabulous simply by the use of color. This quilt is a study in using variations on a single color. Keep this in mind when choosing colors: find your color and don’t stray too far from it, keep your choices harmonious. By using harmonious colors for the hexagons paired with strong graphic prints in a different colorway to frame and set them off, this is your chance to be bold and have fun!

Please note that no sewing will take place during this workshop; Kaffe will assist you in choosing different colors for your quilt (which you may bring to class or you have the option to buy from an entire range) and determining their layout.

This is a class suitable for beginners who already know how to sew a seam and how to use a rotary cutter. It is also for more advanced quiltmakers who wish to concentrate on complex color development.

Class fee includes the following (over $160 retail value):

  • 6 hours of instruction

  • a seat at the Color & Inspiration Lecture on Wednesday 10/17

  • Lunch

  • Kaffe Fassett Quilts in Morocco book

  • Gridded flannel design wall

  • Mediterranean Hexagon acrylic templates

  • 3 yards of assorted designed precuts

  • 15% off all in store purchases

  • Use of our cutting and measuring tools

  • A goodie bag filled with some helpful notions & materials

  • Coffee, water, snacks throughout the day

Specific material requirements and schedule will be sent to participants in advance of workshop. Please contact lauren@craft-south.com with your specific questions.
