Color & Inspiration Lecture: Wednesday, October 17th 6-8p / Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church

Workshop: Thursday, October 18th 9:30a - 4:30p (includes a 1 hour lunch) / Craft South

Featured in Kaffe Fassett Quilts in Morocco, we have taken a traditional snowball and made it fabulous simply by the use of color. This quilt is a study in using variations on a single color. Keep this in mind when choosing colors: find your color and don’t stray too far from it, keep your choices harmonious. By using harmonious colors for the hexagons paired with strong graphic prints in a different colorway to frame and set them off, this is your chance to be bold and have fun!

Please note that no sewing will take place during this workshop; Kaffe will assist you in choosing different colors for your quilt (which you may bring to class or you have the option to buy from an entire range) and determining their layout.

This is a class suitable for beginners who already know how to sew a seam and how to use a rotary cutter. It is also for more advanced quiltmakers who wish to concentrate on complex color development.

Class fee includes the following (over $160 retail value):

  • 6 hours of instruction

  • a seat at the Color & Inspiration Lecture on Wednesday 10/17

  • Lunch

  • Kaffe Fassett Quilts in Morocco book

  • Gridded flannel design wall

  • Mediterranean Hexagon acrylic templates

  • 3 yards of assorted designed precuts

Intro to Rug Twine Weaving

Intro to Rug Twine Weaving (October)
40.00

Sunday, October 28th, 2-5pm

We are combining the art of weaving with our love of fabrics and offering a new class to expand your weaving skills! Rug Twine Weaving takes colors and textures to a whole new level by using a traditional loom - but with FABRICS (!!!) - to create functional, utilitarian pieces of art such as place mats, table runners, rugs, and more! This type of weaving is a great introduction for the beginner or a wonderful way to expand on your current skills - and it's a fabulous way to use up fabric scraps from previous projects! Come relax and work with your hands while learning this centuries-old heritage craft with local fiber artist, Dana Stein. After completing this project, you will have a unique, one-of-a-kind place mat to use and enjoy!

Techniques you will be learning:

  • How to lace a peg loom using yarn as your warp

  • How to Twine fabrics together to form weft

  • How to match colors and textures together

  • How to bind off and finish your piece

Class includes:

  • 3 hours of instruction

  • Water & Snacks

  • 15% off store purchases on class day

Materials required:

  • Peg Loom

  • 1 yard light colored fabric

  • 1 yard dark colored fabric

  • Yarn (25', any color)
